As the Bakery Operation Director at Flour and Spoon, you will oversee all daily operations within our Essex patisserie and kitchens, ensuring the seamless production of our artisan baked goods. Your leadership will be key to maintaining the highest standards of quality, consistency, and efficiency across all bakery processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate bakery and front of the house staff, supporting a collaborative and skilled team dedicated to crafting delectable treats with passion and expertise.

  • Oversee inventory control, sourcing premium ingredients, and maintaining cost-effective supply chain management.

  • Implement and monitor health and safety standards to comply with industry regulations and promote a safe working environment.

  • Develop and refine production schedules to maximise output while preserving product quality.

  • Work collaboratively with the pastry chefs and product development team to innovate and enhance our product offerings.

  • Analyse operational performance data, identifying opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.

  • Maintain effective communication between bakery operations, front-of-house staff, and management to ensure alignment of goals and customer satisfaction.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in hospitality, bakery or food production management, preferably within an artisan or high-quality production environment.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Excellent knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations.

  • Solid financial acumen, including budgeting and cost control.

  • Exceptional organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment without compromising product excellence.

We’re looking for someone with character — a quirky personality, a strong work ethic, and a love for people — to join our vibrant team at Flour and Spoon.

As a Barista at Flour and Spoon, you’ll be at the heart of our bakery & café experience — serving up high-quality drinks and food, creating memorable customer interactions, and adding your own spark of personality to our atmosphere. You’ll also have clear opportunities to grow within the company, with simple, achievable goals to help you progress.

Duties

  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold drinks, including specialty coffees, teas, and seasonal creations.

  • Bring energy and personality to every customer interaction — making people feel welcome is just as important as making a perfect flat white.

  • Keep the café clean, organised, and running smoothly while maintaining food safety standards.

  • Help customers choose their drinks/food, offering recommendations with confidence.

  • Handle cash and card transactions accurately and efficiently.

  • Assist with food prep and restocking when needed.

  • Work closely with the team to smash daily sales and bonus targets together.

  • Be reliable, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays

  • Meet store operating policies and standards, including providing quality beverages and food products, cash handling and store safety and security

Qualifications

  • A friendly, approachable, and confident personality — we’re looking for more than just skills, we’re looking for character.

  • Strong work ethic and time management to keep everything running smoothly.

  • Basic maths skills for till use and cash handling.

  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene (training provided if needed).

  • Previous barista or hospitality experience is essential for this role.
